Supporting your child at home

Reading Records

Each child will be issued with a reading record in which to record their reading. In KS1 parents should record what has been read and make any short relevant comments. In KS2 children should be responsible for recording and talking with parents about their reading. Teachers check these regularly. More reading information here

Weekly Homework Sheets

• Children receive a weekly homework sheet which includes tasks in bold text – reading, maths and English which must be completed. Homework sheets may also include additional tasks which are optional but will support children’s learning.
• Homework sheets also include information about key learning covered during the week together with any methods/explanations.
• Homework sheets are uploaded to a child’s SeeSaw platform on a Friday.
• Homework sheets also include Mystyle; an open-ended task which links to the class topic. Children complete this piece in Mystyle, this may involve research, artwork, posters, poems, models etc. We encourage children to be as independent as possible with this piece of homework, however it also provides a lovely opportunity for children to work along parents to learn and discover new things together. Children find Mystyle a rewarding and exciting part of their topic work, they feel proud of their completed pieces and love to share or present their work with their class.

Additional support for parents

We know that parents want to support their children to ‘be the best they can be’ and want to have confidence that they are providing the correct support at home. Throughout the year we aim to provide;

• Guidance on working methods and explanations within Weekly Homework Sheets.
• Presentations in school or online e.g. start of the year Welcome meetings; Year group specific Top Tips for English and maths; information about KS1 & KS2 SATs.
• Opportunities for parents to purchase additional resources to use with their child at home e.g. CGP study books or books.
